Boylan Chairs All Party Road Safety Meeting

29 January, 2008 - by Cathal Boylan

Sinn Fein Road Safety spokesperson, Cathal Boylan chaired a meeting of the Assembly All Party Road Safety group at Stormont on Tuesday.

Among the items for discussion were a proposed meeting with the 26 County National Road Safety Authority, and a request from the 'Hidden Victims' group, a support group for relatives bereaved by Road Traffic accidents to address the DoE committee in relation to the current review of the Road Safety strategy.

The group also received a response from the Chair of the Education committee as to their request for that committee to ensure adequate provision for seat belts on school buses is provided; they were told legislation was in place to ensure this happens.

Commenting, the Newry & South Armagh MLA said,

"This All Party group is working very hard to explore every avenue to improve Road Safety, our plans to link up with individuals and bodies in the 26 Counties is particularly welcome as Sinn Fein has always stated that this issue is an All Island problem, road deaths and the grief caused by road deaths do not recognise an invisible border."
