Cullyhanna Threats

30 January, 2008

Sinn Féin Councillor Colman Burns has expressed his disgust at what he described as another attempt by Dominic Bradley to pursue his own narrow political agenda by attempting to exploit the concerns of a local family.

Cllr Burns said:

"Sinn Fein learnt of this latest death threat to another individual in the Cullyhanna locality nearly two weeks ago. I immediately contacted and visited the family and as well as totally condemning the threat I offered them our full support.

"The information supplied to the family by the PSNI identified no specific organisation as to the source of the threat. The family told me that no purpose would be served by publicity of any kind in relation to this threat. We agreed to abide by their wishes.

"I would question whether Dominic Bradley bothered calling with the family concerned at all. Is he serving the family's interests in this regard or is he once again intent on exploiting the trauma of a family in pursuit of a narrow party political agenda."

Cllr Burns concluded by stating that Sinn Fein condemned threats from any source.
