Sinn Fein Councillor pleads for Mulvey House residents to be left alone

30 January, 2008

Strabane Sinn Féin Councillor Brian McMahon has appealed to the small group of teenage girls who have been making life a misery for senior citizen residents of Mulvey House in the town to stop their activities immediately.

Cllr McMahon said:

"I am somewhat shocked to learn that 3 teenage girls have been engaged in an ongoing campaign of intimidation and abuse directed against a number of senior citizen residents of Mulvey House.

"This has included banging on the windows of residents who live on the ground floor, firing stones at front door of the facility and the constant verbal abuse of residents.

"Many of the residents are in very poor health and frail and you just have to despair at the mentality of anyone who would set about trying to make the lives of one of the most vulnerable groups in our community a misery.

"I have been now handed the names of 3 girls allegedly involved in this deplorable activity and if I establish with certainty that it is these three girls who are involved, I will have no alternative but to visit their parents and let them know about what has been going on. So I would appeal to those involved in making life a misery for senior citizens of Mulvey house to stop their activities immediately." ENDS
