Problems for Armagh City Environmental Improvement scheme averted

31 January, 2008

Sinn Féin group leader on Armagh City and District Council, Cathy Rafferty has welcomed news that the concerns for the Environmental Improvement scheme for the City have been resolved.

Cllr Rafferty said:

'This vitally important scheme seemed to be heading for difficulties, but due to extensive lobbying by Council officials, Councillors and MLA's, further funding from DSD and DRD has been harnessed to allow the scheme to go ahead.

"Great credit must go to all concerned in their efforts to ensure that the physical regeneration of the City is a major concern for this Council.

"I believe it shows that in areas of mutual concern, when all the parties can pull together and lobby party colleagues in the Assembly that the general public can be the real beneficiaries." ENDS
