Sinn Féin MEP to address Cragavon Climate Change event
Sinn Féin MEP, Bairbre de Brún will be the guest speaker at an information evening on Climate Change, taking place next Wednesday evening (6th February) in the Civic Centre, Craigavon at 7pm. The event which will include a questions and answers session is being hosted by Upper Bann Sinn Féin and will be chaired by John O'Dowd MLA.
Schools and key stakeholders have been especially invited to participate in this awareness raising initiative that is open to all members of the general public.
Speaking from Brussels ahead of the event, Ms de Brun who is a member of the European Parliament's Climate Change Committee said: "I am very much looking forward to my visit to Craigavon and welcome the opportunity to engage with members of the public on this very important subject."
"Climate change is not only the major political challenge of our time; it is also one of the greatest social, environmental and economic threats that society has experienced in recent history."
Ms de Brún who was in Brussels for the European Parliament debate which welcomed the roadmap laid down at Bali for an international climate agreement for after the end of the Kyoto agreement in 2012 continued:
"I fully support this week's calls from MEPs to make the European Union the most progressive part of the world when it comes to climate change. Important achievements were accomplished in Bali. Governments now need to get serious about reducing carbon emissions and come up with concrete plans to meet the targets set down. Local councils and the general public have a crucial role to play and I look forward working closely with councils across the constituency on this all important topic in the coming months." ENDS
