Sinn Féin put emergency motion to DCC - Port Tunnel closures cannot continue
Sinn Féin Councillor Christy Burke will this evening put an emergency motion before Dublin City Council’s monthly meeting calling on Dublin Port Tunnel management to meet with Council representatives as a matter of urgency to explain the recent spate of tunnel closures.
Speaking ahead of tonight’s meeting Cllr. Burke said
“Over the last number of weeks the Port Tunnel has been closed without warning or adequate notice to drivers. I have received numerous calls from airport workers, lorry drivers and other regular users of the tunnel who have been inconvenienced by the spate of tunnel closures. Workers have been late as they have had to use an alternative route on arriving at the tunnel. People trying to get to DublinAirport have missed flights. Lorry drivers have missed ferry connections and delivery deadlines all because no notice has been given for that the tunnel was to be closed. This appears to be happening with increasing frequency.
“I am tonight calling on my colleagues in Dublin City Council to support my emergency motion calling on Dublin Port Tunnel management to come in to discuss this matter with City Council representatives. The regular closing of this important artery in and out of the city cannot be allowed to continue. Port Tunnel management must be held to account.” CRÍOCH
