Anderson calls for Ilex assurance
Foyle Sinn Féin MLA Martina Anderson has called for an assurance that funds earmarked for priority schemes such as Ilex will be delivered despite the winding down of the Integrated development Fund (IDF).
Ms Anderson said:
"The IDF was established in 2003 in order to promote the development of deprived areas in a more integrated way.
"However, the Stormont Executive has agreed that IDF funds would be more effective if they were mainstreamed into the various government departments in order to develop a cross-departmental, strategic approach to regeneration.
"This move is a sensible approach but there have been concerns about what will happen to IDF funds already earmarked for schemes such as Ilex.
"Therefore, I raised this point at the committee of the First and Deputy First Minister this week and asked for specific assurances regarding Ilex and other much-needed regeneration projects.
"Officials have now undertaken to clarify the situation and I am hopeful they will confirm that all projects approved as part of the IDF programme, will be entitled to funding.
"And where ongoing support is needed, it should also be provided by the relevant government departments.
"I expect to have the response within the coming days and I am hopeful that it will allay some of the concerns regarding the IDF and ensure that the regeneration of our city is progressed in the kind of strategic, joined-up way that we need to see." ENDS
