‘Hacker’ issue needs investigated - Boylan
Following the recent media reports of a 'hacker' trying to access the DoE's IT system, Sinn Fein MLA Cathal Boylan, who is Deputy Chair of the Assembly Environment Committee, has raised the issue in the Assembly and particularly concerns about the delay in the Minister of the Environment being informed of the incident which occurred over a week before Arlene Foster was told.
Mr Boylan said:
'This was a very serious issue where private details of members of the public could have been accessed.
"The Minister has indicated that she will come back with a full report into the matter as soon as possible. I also raised the question of when the new IT system for Planning service will be coming into effect. Presently they are using the 20/20 system, which has serious problems and flaws.
"The new EpIC (Electronic Planning Information for Citizens) system will not only be a major benefit system to Planners, but will hopefully speed up the process for the general public. It will also ensure that it will be harder for would be hackers to access the system." ENDS
