IDA agrees to meet North Kerry TDs

13 February, 2008

Following a request from Sinn Féin TD Martin Ferris the IDA has agreed to meet with the four North Kerry Oireachtas members to discuss the ongoing jobs crisis in the county. Deputy Ferris recently wrote to the Chief Executive of the IDA requesting a meeting on the back of the most recent job losses at Tillotson and Swiss Wire in Tralee. Mr. Brian Conroy, who is the IDA's Southern Director, has now agreed to meet the 3 North Kerry TDs and Senator at a location in Tralee over the coming weeks.

Welcoming the news Deputy Ferris, "The IDA has said that it recognises the impact of recent job losses in Kerry, particularly in Tralee. This is to be welcomed, however we need to hear a lot more if we are to be convinced that the IDA is doing everything in its power to bring investment to the county.

"For too long Kerry has been left out in the cold and I will be using this meeting to press home with the IDA their clear failure to deliver for Kerry over the last 5 years and more. We need to hear why Kerry has suffered while our neighbours in Cork and Limerick have benefited from a generous influx of IDA supported companies.

"I am glad that they have agreed to my request to meet with the North Kerry Oireachtas members and I hope that this is the start of a closer working relationship between the IDA and elected representatives in Kerry." ENDS
