Gildernew meets local poultry farmers
Sinn Féin Agriculture Minister, Michelle Gildernew MP, MLA, has met with a delegation of poultry farmers from County Fermanagh and County Monaghan.
The delegation represented farmers and workers affected by the rationalisation of operations at Grove Turkeys in Smithboro, Co Monaghan. Caoimhghín Ó Caoláin TD (Cavan and Monaghan) led the delegation which discussed a range of issues impacting on the farmers and those employed at Grove Turkeys.
Following the meeting the Minister said: "Today's meeting has provided me with an opportunity to understand the problems faced by farmers who were supplying Grove Turkeys, and to suggest ways in which DARD can be of assistance in the future."
At the meeting the Minister outlined the various support measures that could be available to the farmers under the 2007-2013 Rural Development Plan that is designed to strengthen the social and economic infrastructure of the entire rural community.
