Listening to the workplace experiences of disabled workers
Sinn Féin MLA Sue Ramsey, who is the Chairperson of the Assembly Employment and Learning Committee, has said that if we are to overcome the barriers faced by people living with disability in the workplace then we need to listen directly to their experiences.
The Employment and Learning Committee is hosting a presentation from a number of disability groups in the Long Gallery at Stormont today, Tuesday 19th February (starting at approximately 12 noon). It will look at the barriers to employment and also career advancement.
Speaking ahead of the event Ms Ramsey said:
"If we are to tackle the barriers facing people with disabilities in the workplace then we need to listen directly to their experiences.
"Undoubtedly there are barriers and there is discrimination in the workplace that can make it more difficult for people with a disability to get a job, to hold onto a job and to achieve career advancement.
"In the coming weeks the Assembly Employment and Learning Committee will be looking in greater detail at the barrier to employment and the pathways there are in place to assist people with disabilities in the workplace." ENDS
