Gerry Adams to meet Richard Haass in New York

31 October, 2003

Sinn Féin President Gerry Adams MP will meet with US Special Ambassador Richard Haass tomorrow morning in New York. Speaking this afternoon in advance of the meeting Mr Adams said:

"Tomorrows meeting with Ambassador Haass will be our first meeting since Mr. Trimble failed to follow through on the agreement reached in the discussions between ourselves, the UUP and the two governments.

"Despite this set back the dialogue between ourselves and the UUP was constructive and must be built upon after the election campaign. Sinn Féin is committed absolutely to resolving the outstanding matters and seeing the institutions put back in place and the Good Friday Agreement implemented in full.

"We will impress upon the Ambassador our firm belief that the political institutions must be re-established after the elections and that the planned review is not a substitute for this." ENDS
