Boylan welcomes securing of Appleby Funding

26 February, 2008

Sinn Féin MLA for Newry and South Armagh, Cathal Boylan, has welcomed news that the Appleby Trust in Armagh City has secured funding to ensure the project will continue for at least one year.

Mr Boylan said:

"Following a meeting called by the Directors of the Appleby Trust in the Armagh City Hotel on Monday evening attended by many concerned parents and representatives of the Southern Health Trust, it was revealed that matched funding from a benefactor added to funding from the Southern Health Trust will ensure the project can continue for at least another year.

"I join the parents in expressing delight that those people on this scheme for people with learning disabilities will continue to find work placements which enhance their social skills and allow them to interact within the work place.

"It also secures the employment of those who run the project.
Now, we must work to ensure that secure future funding is found so that this programme is sustained beyond next year. The work this project carries out is vitally important for those who take part and I shall be contacting the Southern Health Trust and the Department of Employment and Learning to try and get a commitment from them."
