Ó Donnghaile calls for action on drug dealing in Short Strand

26 February, 2008

Speaking at the East Belfast DPP sub-group meeting last night Sinn Féin Representative Niall Ó Donnghaile has called for action on increasing concerns over drug dealing in the Short Strand area.

He said,

"The PSNI claim not be receiving the intelligence they need to tackle this issue within the Short Strand; I refute this given that a member of the Short Strand community, who recently found a package of cocaine in the area spoke at the DPP telling the PSNI that drug dealing was openly taking place on the Mountpottinger Road.

"I would call on the PSNI to earn the confidence of this community by initially taking this issue seriously and then tackling it, it is not the job of this community to investigate crime, it is the job of the PSNI to prove to us that they can do it." ENDS
