Ó Donnghaile calls for immediate dismantling of Mountpottinger PSNI Barracks

26 February, 2008

Speaking at the East Belfast DPP sub-group meeting last night Niall Ó Donnghaile re-iterated calls for the immediate removal of Mountpottinger PSNI station.

He said,

"This is an issue that Sinn Féin and the Short Strand community has campaigned on for a long number of years and I am confident that the petition launched by Sinn Féin on Friday calling for its removal, will again highlight this opinion.

"Mountpottinger serves no practical operational purpose and the issues raised by residents from the area at the DPP meeting indicate that that is the case, it is apparent that it gives no assistance in preventing crime or anti-social behaviour. Mountpottinger must go.

"The PSNI have indicated their review into Mountpottinger has re-opened and I would call on anyone with an interest in removing this blight from our community to with join us in making their feelings known." ENDS
