Doherty Welcomes Dean Maguirc New Build Announcement

27 February, 2008

Sinn Féin West Tyrone MP Pat Doherty has given a warm welcome to the announcement by Education Minister Caitríona Ruane giving the go ahead for a new build for Dean Maguirc College in Carrickmore.

The West Tyrone MP who has been strongly supportive of the Dean Maguirc development proposal and who has been lobbying the Minister on the issue said,

"Today's announcement by the Minister is very welcome and a good news story for Carrickmore and the wider Mid Tyrone area. It is a huge vote of confidence in
the staff at Dean Maguirc, particularly in their professionalism and ability to deliver a broad and varied curriculum to the pupils'.

"For over 40 years the Dean Maguirc has been at the heart of the local community. The college has a tradition of opening its doors and facilities to local sporting and cultural organisations and their pastoral guidance and community ethos has provided good example to our young people over the past four decades. As the MP for West Tyrone, I would like to wish them at least another 40 years of continued success and excellence." ENDS

Note to Editors

Please note that the Dean Maguirc is Dean Maguirc College - although most people think of it as a school. Most people just call it the Dean.
