Anderson calls on Empey to award Apprenticeship contract to NorthWest Regional College
Sinn Féin MLA Martina Anderson has welcomed the decision by Carter and Carter a company which was awarded the mechanics and motor vehicle training contract ahead of the North West Regional College to withdraw from the contract.
Ms Anderson said,
"At the time when the contract was awarded I questioned the ability of Carter and Carter to deliver the programme due to the fact that it was a firm facing very grave financial difficulties as well as an investigation into falsification of records. These concerns have now been borne out.
"I am now calling on the Department of Employment and Learning to move quickly to award this contract to the North West Regional College in Derry which met all the tendering criteria.
"Under the 'Training for Success' apprentice training scheme which was originally introduced by British Direct rule Ministers, Derry colleges and training centres have lost a number of key schemes.
"It is important that this project is delivered and not put on hold due to the withdrawal by Carter and Carter. I will now be lobbying Minister Reg Empey so that the contract is awarded to the North West College and that the apprenticeships can continue unaffected." ENDS
