Sinn Féin put emergency motion to Dublin City Council on problems with Port Tunnel
Dublin Sinn Féin Councillors Christy Burke and Dessie Ellis have tabled an emergency motion for tonight's City Council meeting which calls on the City Manager to explain the closure and problems associated with the Port Tunnel.
Speaking ahead of the City Council meeting Councillor Dessie Ellis said, "The frequent closure of the Port Tunnel, reportedly due to systems failures, causes traffic chaos for commuters throughout the city. This situation is unacceptable and must be addressed as a matter of urgency.
"Of even more concern are the reports that the tunnel has been kept open at times when it was unsafe to do so and in contravention of the Safety Manual of the tunnel operating company Transroute.
"Sinn Féin has tabled an emergency motion to Dublin City Council which will be discussed at this evening's meeting. We are calling on the City Manager to make a statement in relation to the closure and problems with the Port Tunnel and we will be asking what legal advice, if any, he has sought against the company responsible for the workings of the tunnel."
