Fleming condemns the paint bomb attack on the home of Romanian family in the Waterside
Waterside Sinn Féin Councillor Lynn Fleming has hit out at those involved in a weekend paint bomb attack on the home of a Romanian family in the City.
Councillor Fleming said
"I totally condemn the paint bomb attack on the home of a Romanian family in the Waterside area on Sunday night. The family which has three young children have just moved here to set up home in our city and this must have been a very frightening experience for them.
"I want to offer him my full support and encouragement to them . Undoubtedly, the issue of hate crimes; covering racism, sectarianism, is one of the major challenges facing our society today. I am on record as stating that everyone has a role to play in ensuring that we make it clear that racist and sectarian attacks are not acceptable in our communities
"There is clearly a huge job of work to be done if we are to successfully challenge many of the negative attitudes which exist to difference and diversity in our society and the ensuing violence directed at those who are perceived as 'different' is tackled . In order to achieve this, we need a concerted active campaign to root out, challenge and eliminate discrimination wherever it exists." ENDS
