Morgan calls for retention of Dochas breast cancer centre at Our Lady of Lourdes Drogheda
Speaking in the Dáil this afternoon Sinn Féin TD for Louth Arthur Morgan called on the Government and the Minister for Health and Children Mary Harney to change their plans for the removal of the Dochas Centre for breast cancer sufferers from Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Drogheda.
Deputy Morgan said, "I am calling on the Government and the Minister for Health & Children Mary Harney to change their plans for the removal of the Dochas Centre, a one-stop-shop for patients suffering breast cancer, from Our Lady of Lourde's hospital, Drogheda to Beaumont in Dublin.
"There is an urgent need to maintain this important service for women in the North-East region in view of the constantly higher levels of cancer there than the national average.
"Rather than removing services the government should be enhancing cancer treatment and prevention in this region." ENDS
