Sinn Féin supports Marks & Spencer's sweat shop protest-Doolan
Dublin Sinn Féin Councillor Daithí Doolan has called on the public to support tomorrow's protest against the use of sweatshops by Marks & Spencer's. The protest will be held outside Marks & Spencer's, Grafton Street, at 11.00 am, tomorrow, Thursday March 6th.
Cllr. Doolan said, "Marks and Spencer's is selling items that are produced in the developing world using underpaid labour who are often working in deplorable conditions.
"This practise is unacceptable and must be opposed by the Irish public. Using cheap labour, often child labour, is an abuse of human rights."
Cllr. Doolan also condemned Marks and Spencer's for their practice of retagging these items in an effort to disguise their true origin.
Tomorrow's protest has been organised by the Unite trade union of whom Councillor Doolan is a member.
