Ógra Shinn Féin to unveil youth mural
Sinn Féin MP Michelle Gildernew will attend an event in Belfast tomorrow morning at 11am organised by Ogra Shinn Fein. She will be joined by Cliona O'Kane (East Derry) and Cora Groogan (Mid-Ulster) two of the youngest candidiates standing in the Assembly election.
The event will involve a mural unveiling and media doorstep and will take place at the corner of Dunville Street and the Falls Road.
Speaking this afternoon in advance of the event Ms Gildernew said:
" Ogra Shinn Féin is the fastest growing youth section of a political party in Ireland. It has just completed a recruitment drive in the universities and colleges across the island. Last weekend they held a successful series of events in West Tyrone and tomorrow they will launch a new logo. Ogra Shinn Féin will play a crucial role in this Assembly election campaign.
" Sinn Féin is calling for the voting age to be lowered to 16. Student fees should be scrapped and student loans need to be replaced with adequate grant aid. The minimum wage must be raised for 18 -21 year olds in line with the rest of the population and action is needed on the issue of car insurance for young people.
" Young people are interested in politics and do want a say in their future. Sinn Féin are determined to provide young people with their own space in the political process" ENDS
