Need to transfer of powers on policing and justice discussed at Good Friday Agreement committee in the Dáil
Sinn Féin Minister for Regional Development Conor Murphy and Dail leader Caoimhghín Ó Caoláin today attended the Oireachtas Committee on the implementation of the Good Friday Agreement.
The committee was discussing their work programme for the coming months and the Sinn Fein representatives highlighted the need for work on the transfer of powers on policing and justice and other outstanding issues from the Good Friday Agreement.
Minister Murphy said,
"Today's meeting of the Oireachtas Committee on the implementation of the Good Friday Agreement discussed the work programme for the coming months. We discussed a range of issues which need to be tackled on an all-Ireland basis, the work of the All-Ireland Implementation Bodies and the possibility of Ministers, north and south, addressing the committee.
"Among the issues which we have asked the committee to deal with as a matter of urgency are those issues under the Good Friday Agreement and St. Andrews Agreement for which the Irish government has responsibility for or is committed to seeing delivered.
"The important issue at this time is the transfer of powers on policing and justice. We also discussed the All-Ireland Inter Parliamentary Forum, the All-Ireland Consultative Civic Forum and the issue of full northern representation in the Dáil.
"Sinn Féin has also asked the committee to hold a meeting in the Assembly to facilitate and encourage unionist participation." ENDS
