Sinn Féin welcomes rule change for Dublin waste collection - Doolan
Speaking in Dublin today Sinn Féin Councillor Daithí Doolan welcomed the decision by Dublin City Council to change the way household waste is collected in the city.
Councillor Doolan said "The practice of private companies cherry-picking business in Dublin has to be stopped. These companies are refusing to deal with families on a waiver and do nothing to contribute to waste prevention."
Cllr. Doolan said however that "the move should not be seen by Dublin City Council as an excuse to raise collection charges. Sinn Féin has opposed, and will continue to oppose, the imposition of waste charges on householders. Any attempt to increase these charges will be strongly resisted ".
Cllr Doolan also called on Dublin City Council to ensure that permits are granted to those companies that provide "a union-friendly environment for their employees."
