Political will needed to fund services for victims of Domestic Violence
Speaking following the launch of a report by Amnesty International and the Southall Black Sisters, "No recourse to public funds" Sinn Fein MLA Jennifer McCann has asked local Political representatives to support the campaign.
Ms McCann said:
"This report exposes the extreme danger women and children who are victims of domestic violence are forced to live in because they cannot access the support services they need due to their immigration status.
"They are unable to avail of essential services such as refuges, safe housing or other social welfare provision despite experiencing domestic violence.
"Up to 118 women and children in the North of Ireland are already affected by having no resource to public funds.
"I hope local political representatives will support this campaign and ensure that all women and children who are victims of the crime of domestic violence have access to the services they need." ENDS
