Meeting on Dungiven by-pass well attended - Francie Brolly MLA

20 March, 2008

Sinn Féin Spokesperson, Francie Brolly MLA (East Derry) has said that he is encouraged by the large numbers of people who turned out at short notice to discuss the issue of a Dungiven by-pass.

Francie Brolly said:

"A meeting at which a Committee was elected to take forward the issue of a Dungiven by-pass was held in the town last night. It is intended that the Committee will be expanded to include all interested local opinion. At the meeting which was Chaired by Sinn Féin Couincillor, Brenda Chivers and attended by a number of elected representatives, I updated the meeting on discussions that I have had with the Department of Regional Development regarding the proposed by-pass.

"The emphasis at last nights discussion was the health risk created by the unacceptably high pollution level in lower Main Street caused by the almost continuous traffic congestion in the Town.

"A white line picket has been organized for Wednesday 26th March at 4.30 pm to further raise awareness of the extent of the problem. I will also be seeking to arrange a meeting between representatives of the Committee and Minister Conor Murphy when he is in the Constituency in the near future." ENDS
