Ellis seeks resumption Finglas bus services
Sinn Féin Councillor Dessie Ellis this afternoon attended a meeting with representatives from the main bus unions and local Gardaí aimed at securing the maintenance of all night time services on the 40 and 220 routes. Councillor Ellis said afterwards that he was very hopeful of a positive outcome.
Councillor Ellis said:
"The withdrawal of bus services from Finglas South and West from 7pm this evening will cause severe difficulties for the entire community and is not justified. Passengers and bus drivers are entitled to travel safely but the way to deal with any problems is to work with the community and the Gardaí.
"In Tallaght a forum involving public representatives, community representatives, Gardaí, bus drivers and management was established some years ago. This forum meets regularly and has proved very successful in tackling problems as they arise. We should look at establishing a similar forum in this area.
"It is vital that, pending the resumption of the full service, Dublin Bus immediately put an information campaign in place on the ground in Finglas so that residents are aware of the withdrawal of the service.
"In the longer term there is an urgent need for the establishment of a youth forum in the area to engage with young people and deal with their concerns." ENDS
