de Brún to meet Irish waste campaign group in Brussels
Bairbre de Brún MEP will meet representatives of VOICE (Voice of Irish Concern for the Environment) in Brussels today to discuss the proposed EU Waste Framework Directive.
Ms de Brún in her role as a member of the European Parliament's Environment and Public Health committee is deeply involved in the issue.
From Brussels, Ms de Brún commented:
"I am very happy to meet campaigners from Ireland to hear of their concerns and to brief them on the latest developments in this huge and very important topic. I look forward to telling the campaigners of Sinn Féin's commitment to keeping the prospect of incineration off the agenda at home in Ireland and of working to prevent the reclassification of incineration at EU level in a way that would make facilitate its increased use. The Waste Framework Directive will set the rules for all national legislation on waste management which is why the need to prioritise prevention, recycling and reuse is essential." Críoch
