Welcome for drugs find

2 April, 2008

Sinn Féin Newry and Mourne Councillor Jimmy McCreesh has welcomed news of what has been described as a substantial drug plant find in the village of Belleek in south Armagh last night.

The Councillor who lives near the village speaking from the scene of the drugs raid said that the local community had been shocked at the revelation that approximately £150,000 worth of plants had been found in a house.

Cllr McCreesh said:

"We welcome this find. The drug culture has, as we have witnessed here, come to the very heart of the community. This is the second such find in the locality of what can only be described as an extremely well organised drug plant growing factory. Some weeks ago a similar type operation was discovered near Bessbrook.

"It is imperative that the scourge of drugs is continually tackled and those involved are brought before the Courts." ENDS
