Government must deliver University for South East

2 April, 2008

Waterford Sinn Féin Councillor David Cullinane today supported a lively and colourful demonstration outside Leinster House organised by the campaigning group ‘Friends of the University for the South East’ (FUSE). Cllr. Cullinane was joined by fellow Waterford Councillor Joe Kelly and Sinn Féin TDs.

Speaking from Leinster House Cllr. Cullinane said:

“I am delighted to have taken part in today’s demonstration organised by FUSE. Sinn Féin has been consistent in its support of the group and in our demand for a University for the South East.

“I am calling on the government to appoint a commission as recommended by the Port Report so as to enable the application for a University be moved to the next step.

“Waterford is the only gateway city in the country without a University which leaves the South East unable to operate on a level playing field

“Today’s demonstration, which has the broad support of the business community, trade union movement, political parties and other key stakeholders, evidences the strength of feeling there is for a University for the South East. The government must now act.” CRÍOCH
