Minister must clarify situation regarding cancer misdiagnosis in North East – Morgan
Louth Sinn Féin TD Arthur Morgan has called on the Minister for Health Mary Harney and the HSE to make a clarifying statement regarding the misdiagnosis of cancer patients in the North East. Speaking in the Dáil today Deputy Morgan said there is a lack of clarity surrounding the misdiagnosis and the HSE's handling of the issue.
He said, "The lack of clarity surrounding the nature of the serious issue of misdiagnosis together with the HSE's handling of the issue has alarmed many patients and their families throughout the North East.
"The content of the vague statement issued by the HSE Monday, as a result of pressure from public representatives and the media has caused much more worry and concern for the public.
"The Minister for Health Mary Harney and the HSE must release an immediate statement clarifying the situation and cancer services in the North East and around the country must receive sufficient funding so as to avoid the removal of cancer services as is happening with the closure of the Dochas Centre in Drogheda and the removal of services in Sligo."
