Nine out of ten children with autism not getting required services
Situation unacceptable - Ó Caoláin
Speaking in the Dáil today Sinn Féin Dáil leader and spokesperson on Health and Children Caoimhghín Ó Caoláin TD called on the Government to address the totally unacceptable situation which was highlighted by the survey of the Irish Principal Network which shows that nine out of ten children with autism are not getting the specialist services they require.
Deputy Ó Caoláin said, "The survey by the Irish Primary Principals Network published to coincide with World Autism Day, yesterday, showed that nine out of ten children with autism are not getting access to the specialist services they need. These include speech and language therapists, psychologists and occupational therapists.
"There is an urgent need for Government action to address this totally unacceptable situation." ENDS
