Minister Ahern insults the people of the North-East region – Ó Caoláin
Sinn Féin Health spokesperson and Cavan-Monaghan TD Caoimhghín Ó Caoláin has slammed what he calls the "breathtaking arrogance" of Foreign Affairs Minister Dermot Ahern who said had insulted the people of the North East region with his statement on the proposed regional hospital at Navan. Deputy Ó Caoláin stated:
"Breathtaking arrogance is the only way to describe the statement of Foreign Affairs Minister Dermot Ahern when he said that the proposed new hospital will likely not be built because of lack of Government funds. Once again the intelligence of the people of the North East region is being insulted. At every stage in recent years when services were cut in Monaghan General Hospital and other hospitals we were told that a new centralised regional hospital would provide the solution.
"Now a senior government minister, faced with widespread dissatisfaction at the proposed location of the regional hospital, has apparently spilled the beans. He tells us there is not a 'red cent' in Government coffers for such a hospital. If that is the case then when will the slashed services be restored to local hospitals? If it is not the case then we need to hear Health Minister Harney and HSE CEO Brendan Drumm contradicting the statement of Minister Ahern." ENDS
