Anger at Wrightbus treatment of staff

11 April, 2008

North Antrim Sinn Féin MLA Daithí McKay has said that the behaviour of the management at Wrightbus this week was outrageous.

Mr McKay was speaking in relation to the banning of employees at the plant from crossing the road to a fast food van during their tea break.

Mr McKay said:

"This latest stunt by management at Wrightbus is outrageous and is obviously a further attempt by the employer to bully and intimidate the workforce.

"Workers here do not appreciate being locked in at tea time and one worker said to me that it was like they were being treated as schoolchildren with hot food having to be passed through the fence.

"This is totally unacceptable behaviour by Wrightbus, especially when workers have always been allowed to go out during their breaks before. The name that has been built up for this company is quickly becoming discredited because of stunts like this and their sheer disrespect for their workers." ENDS
