Martin McGuinness to hold Brian Cowen talks

13 April, 2008

Deputy First Minister Martin McGuinness will meet tomorrow, Monday April 14th, with new Fianna Fail leader and incoming Taoiseach Brian Cowen in Belfast.

The meeting will take place in the Stormont Hotel at 12.30pm. Martin McGuinness will be available to speak to the media.

Speaking today in advance of the meeting Mr McGuinness said:

"Brian Cowen is obviously not a stranger to the political process in the north, having previously served as Minister for Foreign Affairs.

"Tomorrows meting will provide an opportunity to discuss with Mr Cowen a number of important issues. Key amongst these is the transfer of powers on policing and justice.

"I will also update Mr Cowen on the ongoing preparations for the Investment Conference scheduled for Belfast in May.

"With the change in leadership within the DUP and a series of outstanding issues which need to be resolved quickly the political process is clearly entering a challenging phase. However Sinn Féin will seek to continue to make progress and allow the process of change to continue moving forward." ENDS
