McPeake takes up top post on Magherafelt District Policing Partnership
Magherafelt Sinn Féin councillor, Séan McPeake, who last night (Monday) took up the top post on Magherafelt District Policing Partnership under the D'Hondt appointments process has said that his immediate aim is 'to ensure that everyone regardless of class, creed, religion or political affiliation has the opportunity to live in safe communities across the district'.
Cllr McPeake said his focus will be on 'empowering communities through the utilisation of police resources, and by building a new relationship with policing structures'.
Councillor McPeake said:
"As someone who has first hand experience of the policing abuses of the past and the reign of the political detectives, I am determined to see the new beginning to policing that everyone in our community deserves.
"I have stepped up to the challenges that the new political dispensation on our island demands and I am lucky to be part of a strong Sinn Féin team on Magherafelt District Council who take our responsibilities to our electors very seriously. We are playing our part in trying to shape new all-Ireland policing and justice arrangements.
"It is my intention to ensure the development of greater transparency between the District Policing Partnership and policing structures. I will be totally focussed in my approach and will play a determined leadership role in the shaping of policing priorities for the district." ENDS
