Anger at lenient sentence in death driving case
Sinn Féin Councillor Anthony Flynn has said that the lenient sentence handed out to a young man who killed two people last year in a road accident on the Dublin Road in Newry sends out entirely the wrong message.
Cllr Flynn said:
"Young people need to get the message that when they get into a car that their actions could lead to death and heart break.
"The lenient sentence handed out in this case, where a young man killed two other local men, sends out entirely the wrong message.
"If we are going to change the attitudes of drivers then we need to ensure that sentencing reflects the seriousness of the crime." ENDS
