Sinn Féin meet PSNI Chief Constable
Sinn Féin President Gerry Adams MP today led a party delegation including Gerry Kelly, Bairbre de Brún, Martina Anderson, Daithi McKay and Alex Maskey to meet with the PSNI Chief Constable Hugh Orde and his senior colleagues in Hillsborough.
Speaking after the meeting Mr Adams said:
"Today's meeting was a positive and constructive engagement.
It is part of a process we are engaged in to deliver an accountable civic policing service.
We dealt with a range of strategic issues of importance including the need for the transfer of power on policing and justice, accountability and legacy issues.
Crucially we also raised at the meeting the concerns of the wider public on the issue of community safety. People need to be able to feel safe in their own homes and in their own communities. The PSNI working in partnership with the rest of us and the other statutory bodies have a key role to play in this.
Sinn Féin are determined to build upon the progress made on policing in recent years. This meeting was part of that process and we look forward to further such meetings in the time ahead." ENDS
