Relocation of Public Sector jobs away from Armagh would be devastating
Newry and Armagh MLA Cathal Boylan has told the Review of Policy on Location of Public Sector Jobs that any relocation of jobs from the Armagh area would have serious implications for the sustainable economic and social environment of the entire area.
In a letter to the seven member Review Team headed by Professor George Bain, the Sinn Féin MLA explained that the biggest employers in the District were the Southern Education and Library Board and the Southern Health Trust.
Mr Boylan said:
"I said that there would be huge concern if these jobs were relocated from Armagh City and District. It would have a detrimental effect on an area which is crying out for economic regeneration.
"There is an argument for not only the retention of jobs in this area but for them to be increased. We are a prime location, with well skilled people and have ample office space." ENDS
