Maximising Dublin's potential

21 April, 2008

On Tuesday 22nd April 2008Dublin City Council will host a conference in Croke Park Conference Centre as part of City Council’s future strategy for developing Dublin’s potential both socially and economically.  The document Maximising the City’s Potential-A Strategy for Intensification and Height has already been published and this conference is part of the public consultation process. The conference is organised by the Planning, Economic Development & International Affairs Strategic Policy Committee, which is chaired by Sinn Féin Councillor Dáithí Doolan.

Speaking in Dublin today Cllr. Doolan said, “The document is part of an overall strategy to combat urban sprawl. Our aim is to develop economic, social and environmentally sustainable communities in Dublin. If we make apartment living more viable and attractive to families, by extension we will be curtailing traffic chaos, carbon emissions and providing Dublin with a positive economic and social future.

“Maximising the City’s Potential is one of 4 priorities for the SPC for the next 18 months, others include Planning for Social Inclusion, Maintaining Economic Growth and Cultural Development.  This conference on Tuesday, which will be attended by developers, community groups, architects and NGOs, among others, is a vital step towards ensuring the long term development of this city.” ENDS
