Walkinstown heroin seizure and Crumlin pipe bomb raised in Dáil

24 April, 2008

Sinn Féin Justice Spokesperson Aengus Ó Snodaigh TD has welcomed the seizure of a quarter of a million euros worth of heroin in Walkinstown yesterday and called for a debate on drug related crime after a pipe-bomb attack in Crumlin and a drive by shooting in Limerick yesterday.

Deputy Ó Snodaigh said, "The seizure of heroin worth a quarter of a million in Walkinstown yesterday, while welcome, is also another reminder that the heroin crisis continues.

"Further drug-related crime taking place in the last 24 hours included a pipe-bomb attack in Crumlin and a drive-by shooting in Limerick.

"The government must acknowledge and fully recognize their failure to resource and implement the National Drugs Strategy which is now in its final months as a starting point for future progress.

"Communities, those involved in frontline service delivery and all those affected by drug addiction must be encouraged to participate in the upcoming public consultation meetings on a future drugs strategy." ENDS
