McCartney expresses anger at NI Water £8000 party
Sinn Féin Regional Development Spokesperson, Raymond McCartney MLA (Foyle) today expressed his anger at the Management of N. I. Water - the North's water and sewerage provider.
Raymond Mc Cartney said:
"It has emerged that around 60 managers from NI Water attended an event in a top hotel outside Belfast at a cost of approximately £8,000 just days after it was revealed that the Company had miscalculated projected costs which will impact on household payments for water and sewerage services in the future.
Mr McCartney continued: "I share the outrage that will be felt by the NIW consumers at the fact that the Management of NIW thought it appropriate or indeed justifiable to spend £8,000 from the public purse on an internal event of this nature at all. But do to so at a time when they had just revealed to Minister Conor Murphy that they had in fact miscalculated costs based on payments between the non-domestic sector and households here stinks of sheer arrogance."
Mr McCartney further stated that in relation to the Utility Regulator's appearance and evidence to the Assembly scrutiny committee on Regional Development earlier today, Regulator Ian Osborne expressed criticism of NIW.
"The Regulator this morning raised a number of issues which NIW must address relating to the standard and sustainability of the Company's Strategic Business Plan. Sinn Féin through the Assembly Committee will be demanding answers to these criticisms when NIW will be given an opportunity to respond when management appear before the Committee shortly."
