Sinn Féin disappointed at 11+ carbon copy proposal

24 April, 2008

Sinn Féin education spokesperson Paul Butler MLA has expressed his disappointment at the independent Association for Quality Education proposal for school tests.

Mr Butler said,

"What the schools of the AQE are arguing for is academic selection in another name.

"This is not helpful and brings us back to an outdated and archiac system.
"The Education Minister has instigated the biggest overhaul of the six county education system for the better.

"The changes, root and branch, shall result in a democratic, a fair and a world class education system.

"It is now essential that we get away from the political negativity of those who want to retain a system that fails so many of our children and get proper engagement, particularly in local communities." Críoch
