Roads Investment Delivery Plan published
Sinn Féin Regional Development Minister Conor Murphy has announced the Investment Delivery Plan (IDP) for roads.
The Plan identifies Roads Service capital investment priorities over the next ten years, given the funding levels envisaged through the Northern Ireland Investment Strategy 2008-2018 (ISNI).
The Minister said:
"This is the most exciting programme of investment for roads in recent times. Over the ten year ISNI period the total investment of £3.1billion is envisaged for capital projects.
"At the core of the programme are major road schemes which will see the completion of the dualling of the Eastern Seaboard Corridor providing a minimum of dual carriageway standard between Larne and the Border South of Newry, the dualling of the entire A5 between Derry and the border at Aughnacloy and two major dualling projects on the A6 between Randalstown and Castledawson and Derry to Dungiven. Further major schemes include dualling the A2 from Derry to City of Derry Airport and dualling 7km of the A26 north of Ballymena."
The plan also embraces a wide range of strategic road improvements across the north.
This unprecedented level of roads investment will reduce journey times and greatly improve safety on our roads and will provide the road network required to help the Executive achieve its central aim of growing a dynamic and innovative economy.
