New York Mellon Corporation accept Omagh invitation
Sinn Féin West Tyrone MP Pat Doherty says that he hopes that the decision by representatives of the Bank of New York Mellon Corporation to accept an invitation to visit the ancestral home of its founding father Thomas Mellon at the Ulster American Folk Park, as part of their itinerary during this weeks major Investment Conference, will lead to them examining the many potential investment opportunities that Omagh has to offer.
The local MP, along with Omagh District Council, extended written invitations to the Bank of New York Mellon Corporation having learned that they were to be present at the Investment Conference in Belfast from 7th - 9th May.
Pat Doherty said,
"In my letter of invitation to the Corporation, I detailed Thomas Mellon's journey from his humble beginnings outside Omagh before emigrating at the age of five to America with his parents in 1818 to becoming one of the most inspirational and successful business leaders in the United States.
"I also highlighted that it is the restored Mellon ancestral home that forms the centrepiece of the Ulster American Folk Park which is one of the most popular tourist destinations in the North West of Ireland and as well as learning more about the Mellon legacy in the area during their visit.
"I also expressed the hope that they would take the opportunity to learn more about Omagh, its background as a market town and its present position as a thriving, regional centre of population.
"This visit is a golden opportunity to re-forge the strong historical links between the Mellon family and the Omagh area which, in turn I hope, will lead to the Bank of New York Mellon Corporation examining the many potential investment opportunities that Omagh has to offer." ENDS
