Ó Snodaigh welcomes Garda operation against Limerick criminals
Sinn Féin Justice Spokesperson Aengus Ó Snodaigh has welcomed the large scale Garda operation against drug dealing and organised crime in Limerick.
More than 250 officers were involved in raids on 150 premises in Limerick today leading to three arrests and the seizure of €200,000 worth of cocaine and ecstasy, €100,000 in cash, two firearms, ammunition, computers, documents, a car and a motorcycle.
Deputy Ó Snodaigh said, "For a long time now I have been calling for strong action against drug gangs and organised crime so I welcome today's Garda operation in Limerick. This style of operation needs to be replicated in serious crime hotspots throughout the state.
"The disruption caused for ordinary residents living in the areas affected is unfortunate. However, I feel the measures taken by the Gardaí reflect the serious threat to society posed by these gangs and such measures are warranted in these circumstances.
"I can only hope that the Gardaí done their homework correctly and that no innocent families were affected. The arrests and seizures would show that at least some of the raids were successful and would suggest that the operation is justified.
"Serious efforts must now be made to bring about more arrests and to secure convictions." ENDS
