Sinn Féin proposing free parking for electric cars - Doolan
Speaking in Dublin today Sinn Féin Councillor Dáithí Doolan has said he will be proposing an amendment at City Council to the climate change strategy which is due for ratification this evening. Cllr. Doolan’s amendment will see electric cars exempt from parking charges.
Cllr. Doolan said “While Sinn Féin supports the general thrust of the proposed strategy, and commends Dublin City Council for being the first local authority in the country to have a climate change strategy, we would like to see an exemption for electric cars.
“An electric car emits zero CO2 at the tail pipe versus two tonnes emitted annually by an ordinary car. It is estimated that at present cars in Dublin emit 16% of the total carbon emissions in the city. Every car taken off the road and replaced with an electric car will save the city two tonnes of carbon a year, a very real and achievable target for the city.” ENDS
