PSNI clearance rates can still be improved - Sinn Féin

16 May, 2008

Responding to figures released by the PSNI on crime, Sinn Fein Policing Board member Alex Maskey has welcomed the drop in crime but has highlighted the fact that the current clearance rate is unacceptable.

"Sinn Féin welcomes the drop in crime reported and acknowledges the work done so far to meet the increased targets set in the 2008 Policing Plan by the Policing Board.

"It must be noted that violent crime, robberies and criminal damage are all down.

"However more can be done to tackle crime and the current clearance rate needs to be improved.

We will continue to work with the Policing Board and the PSNI to ensure that they deliver more immediate and sustainable improvements in tackling crime." ENDS
