Sinn Féin meet with BT over Broadband provision
Sinn Féin MLA Barry McElduff has welcomed a meeting between Sinn Féin Assembly members and BT to discuss Broadband provision across the North.
Mr McElduff said,
"In order for the North to compete for high tech industry we need a fast modern reliable Broadband network that can meet the growing needs of this industry.
"While acknowleging the efforts of DETI and BT to achieve 100% availability, the network provision in some rural areas depends on satellite provision and can suffer from relatively low speed connection.
"If we are to attract major investment in high tech industry and if we are to meet the needs of people who work or study at home and indeed many community projects and businesses then greater investment needs to be made by government to ensure equal access to broadband services at an equal cost.
"Sinn Féin would join with BT to encourage people to formally apply for broadband connection and not just rely on anecdotal evidence that areas are not covered.
"I welcome the meeting today with BT one of the largest internet providers to discuss their plans for the future and the opportunity to create a relationship between elected representatives and BT so that any further developments are tailored to the needs of the economy and local population."
