Ó Snodaigh welcomes Walkinstown heroin seizure
Sinn Féin Justice Spokesperson Aengus Ó Snodaigh TD has welcomed the seizure of €1million worth of heroin in the Walkinstown part of his constituency. Speaking today Deputy Ó Snodaigh said this seizure is a stark reminder that the heroin problem has not gone away.
Deputy Ó Snodaigh said, "I welcome the seizure of heroin in my constituency and congratulate those officers involved in the operation. I am delighted to see such a large quantity of heroin being taken off the streets.
"However, this seizure, and the quantity in particular, shows that there is still a high demand for heroin in this state. While the cocaine epidemic is sweeping the state we must always keep in mind that the heroin problem has not gone away.
"The fight against drugs and drug crime must continue unabated with all the necessary resources. I am encouraged by recent Garda operations against well known criminals in Limerick and would like to see similar type operations take place against Dublin drug dealers and criminals including those involved in gun crime such as the shooting that took place in the South West Inner City last night. But the Gardaí must be given the resources to do so. Resources for the Garda Drug Squads need to be at least doubled at this time.
"Resources must also be put into the rehabilitation side of the fight against drugs in order to facilitate those who wish to come off drugs to do so in the most appropriate manner." ENDS
